How Our Four Concrete Plants Cover Greater London

Contact Us

If you have ever wondered how a concrete delivery can reach your site quickly, no matter where you are in London, the answer comes down to location. Express Concrete operates four ready mix concrete London plants positioned strategically around the capital. This network means that wherever your project is, a plant is never far away.

In this post, we explain where each plant is, which parts of London it serves, and why having four plants matters for the speed and reliability of your concrete delivery.

Why Does Plant Location Matter?

Ready mix concrete has a limited working time once it is batched and loaded into the truck. This means delivery speed is not just about convenience. It is essential for the quality of your pour. The closer a plant is to your site, the fresher the concrete arrives, and the more control you have over your pour.

London is a large, heavily built-up city with significant traffic. A single plant trying to serve the whole capital would struggle to guarantee timely deliveries across all areas. By spreading four plants across different parts of Greater London, Express Concrete reduces drive times significantly and gives customers in every corner of the city reliable access to high-quality concrete.

You can read more about how ready-mixed concrete works on The Concrete Centre’s guide to ready-mixed concrete, which explains how each batch is made to order at a central plant before being delivered direct to site.

Barking Plant: East and North East London

Our Barking plant was the first plant opened by Express Concrete back in 2018. Based on Ripple Road in Barking, it was built to serve East and North East London, as well as parts of Essex. It has delivered into major projects in Canary Wharf, Stratford, Dagenham, Ilford, Romford, and East Ham, among many other areas across the east of the capital.

The Barking plant produces over 850 cubic metres of concrete per day, making it one of the busiest in the network. Its east London location keeps delivery routes short for a large and densely developed area of the city.

Erith Plant: South East London and Kent

The Erith plant was Express Concrete’s second plant, also opened in 2018. Located at Standard Wharf Manor in Erith, it serves South East London, South London, and Kent. Key project deliveries from this plant have included Kidbrooke, Greenwich, Woolwich, Bexley, Dartford, and Gravesend.

The Erith plant produces in excess of 800 cubic metres per day and is well positioned to reach both the densely built areas of inner South East London and the wider Kent commuter belt beyond the M25.

Wembley Plant: West and North West London

Our Wembley plant is the most recent addition to the Express Concrete network, opened in 2022. Based on Commercial Way in Abbey Road, Wembley, this state-of-the-art wet batch plant serves West and North West London. It covers areas including Acton, Ealing, Harrow, Hendon, and Stanmore.

The addition of the Wembley plant filled an important gap in the network and brought the same reliable service that customers in East and South East London had come to expect to the western side of the capital.

Chessington Plant: South West London and Surrey

The Chessington plant rounds out the network by covering South West London and the Surrey corridor. Serving areas such as Kingston, Wimbledon, Epsom, Guildford, and Cobham, this plant ensures that customers in the south-west of Greater London and beyond have straightforward access to ready mix concrete, without long wait times or extended delivery routes.

What This Means for You as a Customer

The four-plant network has a very practical benefit: shorter delivery distances. Shorter distances mean:

  • Fresher concrete on site, with more working time for your pour
  • Less risk of delays caused by traffic or long routes
  • Greater flexibility to schedule deliveries around your project timetable
  • Consistent product quality with less variation between batches

All four plants operate Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm, and on Saturdays from 7am to 12pm. Out-of-hours working is available on request, which is useful for larger commercial projects that require early morning or weekend pours.

A Family Business, Serving London Since 1991

Express Concrete has been delivering across London since 1991. The company remains family-owned and independent, which means decisions are made with the long-term interests of customers in mind rather than driven by large corporate targets. The four-plant setup is a direct result of that commitment: building a network that genuinely serves the whole of London well, rather than just the most convenient parts of it.

Whether you are a house builder in Harrow, a contractor in Canary Wharf, or a commercial developer in Croydon, Express Concrete has a plant built to reach you.
